non-stop adventuring

the title doesn’t lie.

perhaps if i go backwards i’ll actually somewhat remember it all (and not go on forever about it).

last night josh and i saw the foo fighters at pacific coliseum. oh my. SO GOOD. dave grohl is a maniac. there was pretty much non-stop seat shuffling and confusion all around us. our seats were pretty much awesome (cheap seats, but not too high and dead centre to the stage, which meant we were also even closer and dead centre to the acoustic stage. hell yes!). loved that against me did a lap down the catwalk in honour of their last night on the tour. one of two best pre-encores ever. LOUD. embarrassed myself a bit at the end of the night when i slipped and control fell down the slippery stairs on the way out (controlled in that i held on to the rail the whole time and ensured that even though i couldn’t stop the fall, i could at least slow it down and not hurt myself), kicking josh in the bum and thoroughly confusing the girl walking behind me. kind of funny, actually.

sunday, saturday, and friday were spent in an 4×4 adventure with a bunch of other delicas out near harrison lake. josh and i headed straight up to the camp site after work on friday night and spent the weekend van camping and driving around on incredibly bumpy and muddy forestry roads, generally living up that whole hillbilly lifestyle. it was pretty awesome. most interesting moments were (but were not limited to): watching one of our group swim in a river that he managed to get his van stuck in, smoking a hookah at the camp fire both nights, watching sushi being made from scratch for dinner on saturday night (only in vancouver would homemade sushi be camping food), watching another of our party get pulled out of a huge mud puddle that he got royally stuck in at stave lake by a seriously hard core off-road redneck, the absolute greenery of the forest we were camping in, driving down a dry creek bed not entirely sure we’d be able to drive back up again, ruby the siberian husky!, saaaa-WEEET. i’ve decided that i 100% love van camping and absolutely prefer it to tent camping.

band practice every wednesday night is always a good time, though the pressure is on for me to get some lyrics written to match the few songs that have been hammered out. as someone who has NEVER written poetry or songs, this is highly challenging and making me feel a bit as though i’m not contributing enough to the creative process. i don’t want to let the guys down, but at the same time, we are just doing this for fun and i want to keep it fun for myself, so i’m just going with the flow and bringing what i can to the table. i actually do have one song’s worth of words, i just need a chorus and a better way of matching them to the chosen music. anyways.

the absolute debauchery that was amanda’s visit was extremely fun and made me realize how i do actually enjoy going out on the weekend and just totally letting loose. it also made me realize that i’m not built to do that kind of thing every weekend anymore (i may only be 26, but i’m actually pretty fucking old. talk to 18 or 22 year old me and it wouldn’t have been an issue). but once in a while is good! party and stuff!

coming up in the adventure department is my calgary visit the weekend of april 12, a wedding on salt spring island the weekend of april 19, heather coming to vancouver for the weekend of april 26, queens of the stone age april 30, vegas for jenn and smaff’s wedding the weekend of may 1 (and no, i haven’t gotten our tickets yet. this causes me great stress. but i digress), nofx may 9 (i think), likely trip to calgary for vfest the weekend of june 21, matthew good and his band june 26, pemberton festival the weekend of july 25, my parents coming to vancouver the weekend of august 9, kris and will visiting for a week sometime in september, …

that’s all that’s planned right now. no damn wonder i’m freaking out a bit about time and money at the moment. however, look at all that! how much freaking fun! i have definitely decided, though, that two dance classes a week is one class too many (oh, did i not mention? i’m dancing twice a week right now too). once this session is done, i think i’m going to drop the street jazz class on thursday nights and just keep on with the monday night hip hop. monday night hip hop is pretty much the bees knees so i don’t plan on giving that up.

and hey, while i have your attention (if i still do, this has gotten a bit rambly), spring in vancouver rules. it’s happening again and i absolutely love it.

    Van camping sounds awesome!

I wouldn’t get too worried about the band stuff. I’m starting to work out drum tracks with the intent of recording full instrumental versions of our songs so that you can monkey with the vocals. Give me a week or so and I should have Porno for Pirates laid down.

Strangely, I’m in Calgary on Apr 12 too!
