the met vancouver = sucks

i will now proceed to break my non-blogging streak to bring you a tale of complete ridiculousness.

let me preface this by saying kimli has written many words on this very subject that will both entertain and horrify you far better than mine likely will. just saying.

amanda’s been in town for just over a week and it’s been awesome good times. she stayed with her friend, cait, on the weekends and with josh and i all during the past week and it’s been so fun having her here. she must move here! anyways, many many fun times have been had while she’s been here and we all thought that she needed a really great send off last night before heading back to calgary today. enter darren’s suggestion! (note: darren is no longer allowed to pick our venues. unless it’s the railway club. then it’s okay.) “hey everybody, i know this really great place in gastown that has karaoke on saturday nights… let’s go to the met!”

now, we all know that darren’s taste is questionable in these matters, but thought, what the hell? let’s check this place out!

the first inkling that all may not be as it seemed was when kimli, josh, and i were just leaving to head over there. i texted reilly to find out if we would have to pay a cover when we got there, only to get a phone call in response: “when you get here, don’t commit to parking. we’re just waiting for darren to show up and then leaving cause this place is SKETCHY.” uh, okay, thanks reilly, we won’t commit to parking, just keep us informed. so we drive into downtown and still haven’t heard one way or another, so i send another message to ask them to let us know what’s going on. not only do i get one reply, but two from both reilly and miranda: “things are looking up! we may stay after all!” it was immediately surmised in the car that the lights at this place must have gone down and therefore the sketchiness dulled a bit. okay, cool, so we’re going to the met after all.

now, here’s where kim’s rendition will serve you better than my own, therefore i will defer to her site for all the details of what was to come. however, i will add a few points from my own perspective:

  • amanda and i did not go outside when the police escorted darren out to question him re: the wallet stealing accusation, but instead stayed inside to offer what support we could in talking to the police officers that were inside to question the accuser and also to lament about how the whole situation was totally ruining our buzz.
  • i’m still a little bummed that cait and i were robbed of our chance to sing “no rain” together because of the clones aka regulars at the table next to us that decreed it should not be so.
  • the rest of the night aside, the dude who sang “punk rock girl” was AWESOME.
  • even after the whole wallet-darren-police debaucle i was still totally ready to decide that the met was pretty radical and could easily be a semi-regular thing for us. then i got to overhear the bartender – who we’d just watched sing and sang along with with all our hearts – come over and tell cait that we had to leave. i didn’t actually believe that i’d heard her correctly and had to clarify. excuse me? did she just tell us to leave? that’s bullshit!
  • when the infamous helicopter demonstration text message came in, i was actually the first person who got to witness it as kimli was driving at the time and couldn’t check her phone. i was at first shocked and then in full hysterics after realizing what it was i was looking at and promptly passing the phone to josh so that he could also behold darren’s wang in all it’s glory in the denny’s parking lot.

and that is my modified version of why the met can suck it. if slutty boob-jiggling clones is all they want for clientele, they can have them. at least we got to finish off their last keg of winter ale before being forced to hit the road.

Am sad that I have never gotten the “She must move here” stamp of approval. :P

So Shan can suck it. :D
